1. Crappie: Excellent action reported using live minnows 8-12 feet deep around bridge pilings and submerged brush. Fish are holding near structure in cooler water.
2. Largemouth Bass: Active in shallow water 3-7 feet deep, especially inside feeder creeks and along steep dropping points in Poplar Creek. Dark colored jig ‘n pig combos, crankbaits, and slow-rolled spinnerbaits are producing.
3. Striper: Best action remains below the Gaston Dam and near creek mouths, targeting schools of shad. Live shad, bucktails, and Sassy Shads are top baits, with trolling Redfins effective above the dam.
Despite the chilly air and water temperatures, fishing remains productive for those willing to brave the conditions. Look for fish holding tight to structure and use slow presentations to entice bites. With partly cloudy skies and light wind, anglers should find favorable conditions for a rewarding day on Lake Gaston. Stay warm and enjoy the winter fishing opportunities!
