1. Largemouth Bass: Bass are starting to become more active in late winter, focusing on main lake points and creek mouths. Slow-rolled spinnerbaits, jig ‘n pig combos, and shad-imitating swimbaits fished near deeper structure at 12-18 feet are producing bites.
2. Crappie: Crappie remain suspended in main creek channels and bends. Look for schools holding around 15-25 feet and use small jigs or minnows to trigger aggressive strikes.
3. Striped Bass: Stripers are concentrated at the lower end of the lake, particularly near the mouth of Lizard Creek and flats behind Route 85 bridge. Live shad and bucktails work best in water near 40-50 feet.
4. White Perch: White perch are active below the Gaston Dam, readily taking red wigglers and small jigs in shallow rocky areas.

With water temps still in the low 40s and chilly air temps, fish activity is gradually increasing but remains somewhat slow. Focus on key transition areas where deeper winter holding spots meet warming shallows. Use slow, deliberate presentations and pay attention to weather windows, as mild rain showers and moderate winds can stimulate feeding. Patience and persistence this time of year often lead to quality bites as fish prepare for the spring push. Get out early and enjoy the quieter lake conditions!
