"Fish spawning season" brings higher lake levels

Lake Gaston Guide

Effective March 1 Dominion has been operating under fish spawning operations. This means that Lake Gaston can be raised an extra foot (up to 201 feet) to provide storage in support of spawning flows as necessary. This will continue until June 15.

Flows in the Roanoke River have been lower than average this March which has reduced the amount of water being released from Kerr, but come April 1 the USCOE will begin to release water from Kerr to ensure discharges into the lower Roanoke River meet specific targets between April 1 and June 15.

The Corps has stored water in Kerr during the winter to ensure sufficient water is available to meet these spawning flow targets.
