Phase II revegetation complete

State and local organizations came together for the second phase of Lake Gaston’s 2017 revegetation efforts recently. According to Lake Gaston Association member Bruce Johnson, representatives from NC State University, NC Wildlife, VA Dept of Game and Inland Fisheries and the LGA launched from Poplar Creek early in the morning to inspect and repair plant cages and to put down more non invasive species of plants for wildlife habitat.

Henrico boy drowns

An 11-year-old boy drowned in Henrico Friday afternoon, Northampton County Medical Examiner Paul Nowell confirmed. “It’s just a tragic situation,” he said. Coren Deloatch, who couldn’t swim, Nowell said, slipped into the water and drowned.

Lake residents given fair warning about orange buoys

North Carolina Wildlife officers are giving Lake Gaston residents fair warning this week. NC Wildlife is asking all lakefront homeowners with buoys to pull them up immediately. It is against the law to use them and you risk a citation.

Rescue efforts were underway Thursday just before lunchtime after five kayakers on the Roanoke River capsized in turbulent waters and were plunged into the water.
