Low Water Levels
July 13, 2010

The Lake Gaston Association says many residents have contacted them inquiring as to the reason for low lake levels. The Association

sent an email saying we are in a mild drought situation, which has reduced flows into and out of Kerr Reservoir. At the same time, extremely high temperatures have increased Dominion’s demand for power generation, which as we all know is the primary purpose of our lake. The recorded level this morning, July 13, at 8 a.m. was 199.19 feet, which is above Dominion’s mandated minimum of 199 feet, although just barely.

We recognize that these lower water levels can cause some folks not to be able to get their boats out of their lifts, and hopefully we will see some relief soon.

The LGA says it will continue to monitor the situation and keep members advised.
