Golden opportunity -- Center to offer Lake Gaston residents educational Lake Gaston Gazette Observer 6/30/2010

The Lake Gaston Community Center in Henrico is gearing up to become a golden opportunity for the community

as a whole. The organization, Lake Gaston Community Center, Inc. recently received a Golden Leaf Grant in the

amount of $242, 700 to aid in that venture.
Lake Gaston gets some help with hydrilla; Weed council to receive funds Roanoke Rapids Daily Herald 6/25/2010

The Lake Gaston Weed Council will receive $25,000 from Northampton County this current fiscal year. The

decision came with much discussion and a divided vote of 3-2. Commissioners Robert Carter and Virginia Spruill

voted no.

Nails on I-95 cause flat tires WRAL-TV 6/25/2010

Almost two dozen motorists traveling on Interstate 95 reported flat tires Thursday morning in Halifax County. An

investigation revealed nails all over the northbound lanes between exits 160 at Louisburg and 168 at Lake Gaston.

Summer is here and so is the time to be on the lake. Many residents will likely have family and friends visiting for

the season and one local group would like to help keep families safe while they are on the water. Legislature has

passed bills requiring a life jacket for each person on boats and now anyone under the age of 13 is required to

wear a life vest at all times on a boat that is underway.
N.C. government considers I-95 tolls too Emporia Independent Messenger 6/23/2010

The state of Virginia recently sent an I-95 tolling application to the Federal Department of Transportation. If

approved, the tolling would be near the Virginia/North Carolina border directly affecting the Emporia-Greensville

community. The state of North Carolina hasn't ruled out the possibility of tolling I-95 on their side of the state

line near the Virginia border.
