 The localities around Lake Gaston have voted Republican in the 2010 mid-term elections, part of a conservative-GOP sweep.
Voters near the lake in North Carolina are in the 1st Congressional District. They also voted in a U.S. Senate race. In Virginia, the area around the Lake is in the 5th Congressional District.
