Warren Co. Farmers Market accepting vendors Warren Record 3/10/2010

The Warren County Farmers Market is now accepting vendors for its second season, which will open April 17 in a

new location - the BB&T parking lot, Market St., Warrenton.
LGA boasts 1,292 household memberships Lake Gaston Gazette Observer 3/10/2010

David Duxbury, Lake Gaston Association Director and Chairman of the Membership Development Committee

reported that the association now has 1,292 households and 56 businesses listed on its membership roster.

Each household membership conservatively consists of at least two adult members.
Morningstar will not contest FERC's East Oaks ruling Lake Gaston Gazette Observer 3/10/2010

Morningstar Marinas, owner of Eaton Ferry Marina, will not contest the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's

(FERC) ruling that approved the expansion of East Oaks Marina. East Oaks proposed adding a boat launching

facility to the northern tip of their property located directly across a narrow cove from the existing Eaton Ferry

Marina at the south end of the Eaton's Ferry Bridge.
Lake Gaston Gazette founder dies Lake Gaston Gazette Observer 3/10/2010

Maurice Emery, 66, founder of the Lake Gaston Gazette passed away on Monday, March 8 from complications of

surgery. He was a patient at Duke University Hospital since the last week in February. Maurice and his wife, Kay,

published the first issue of the Lake Gaston Gazette on Nov. 2, 1993.
Northampton narrows field for spending $2 million Roanoke Rapids Daily Herald 3/10/2010

Northampton County has moved even closer to spending $2 million from the Golden LEAF’s Community

Assistance Initiative Tuesday evening the 12-member review team narrowed 25 proposals worth about $6 million

down to 10 proposals totaling $3.8 million.

Chesterfield seeks funds to combat Hydrilla Richmond Times-Dispatch 3/7/2010

Chesterfield County is seeking nearly $3 million in federal funds to stave off an aquatic weed threatening the

quality of a major water source, the Swift Creek Reservoir. Hydrilla, a nuisance weed indigenous to Asia, has spread

rapidly in the 1,700-acre reservoir in recent months, infesting almost 750 acres.
Gatling misses February payment Roanoke Rapids Daily Herald 3/6/2010

Entrepreneur Lafayette Gatling and his company, L&M Hospitality RR LLC, are late in making the February payment

to the city for the purchase of The Roanoke Rapid Theatre. The company failed to make the $98,203.49 payment

on Feb. 1, and as of Friday afternoon was still in arrears. Additionally, the March payment — an additional

$98,203.49 — was due last Monday.

Crowded cove may get more crowded Lake Gaston Gazette Observer 3/3/2010

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued their final ruling in late February approving the

expansion of East Oaks, LLC (East Oaks) public marina expansion. East Oaks is located across the small cove from

Morningstar Marina at the south end of Eaton's Ferry Bridge.
Weed Funding put on hold by Halifax Lake Gaston Gazette Observer 3/3/2010

Halifax County Commissioners opted not to take action on the Lake Gaston Weed Council's formal request for a

second half of the balance, $58,000, of Halifax County's pledge for the period of July 1, 2009 thru July1, 2010.

Traffic along Hwy. 1 just across the Virginia border will become one lane for the next six or more months as the

Virginia Department of Transportation repairs the roadway near Miles Creek Bridge about four miles from the

N.C./Va. state line.
Warren Co. Deputy suspended following arrest Warren Record 3/3/2010

Warren County Sheriff's Deputy Christopher Michael Boncek, 34, of Star Lane, Hollister, was arrested shortly after

midnight on Sunday in relation to an altercation with a Franklin County Sheriff's deputy.
